Possible death of a dog related to eating Bestro Chicken Jerky Strips


A report of a death of a dog after eating Bestro Chicken Jerky Strips (purchased from the Wal-Mart) was in the Delco Times (Delaware County, PA) on August 14, 2007. The veterinarian on the case was suspicious of a bacterial infection caused by eating the possibly contaminated jerky treats after an autopsy was performed on the dog.

Wal-Mart has a statement on their website concerning the Jerky strips at http://www.walmartfacts.com/articles/5241.aspx  They stated, "we proactively removed Chicken Jerky Strips manufactured by Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co and Chicken Jerky manufactured by Shanghai Bestro Trading with UPC 0087784900006 from our stores on July 26, 2007." They also did mention they found traces of melamine in the product and that they have removed the product from their shelves.
